Well this was supposed to be my Fall/Winter Fragrance Guide but time got away from me and given there is snow on the ground, while it is technically still Fall, I am in holiday mode! So behold the 12 Days of Christmas Fragrances. A dozen scents that you will love to give or receive this holiday season. I have discovered several new favourites in this seasons new launch roundup (don’t I always!) so I can’t wait to share them with you.
If you have read any of my fragrance pieces in the past you will know that Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black is one of my all time favourite scents. I would have to say it is probably my signature scent, even though I switch up my fragrances often. When I discovered Elizabeth and James was releasing two new Nirvana scents I was incredibly excited. While they don’t surpass my love for Nirvana Black, they are welcome additions in my fragrance wardrobe. If you haven’t tried the Elizabeth and James scents yet then you simply MUST get the Elizabeth and James Find Your Nirvana Rollerball Set. It includes rollerballs of all four scents for you to discover. If you are already an Elizabeth and James fan then it is perfect for your handbag!
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon Eau de Parfum ($107 CAD/50 ml) is an oriental woody fragrance. It features notes of Vanilla Bourbon, Oakwood, and Tuberose for a sexy and sultry scent with a hint of sweetness and smokiness. The translucent amber bottle is beautiful.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose Eau de Parfum ($107 CAD/50 ml) is a dark, sultry rose floral. While I’m not always a fan of rose scents this one I can love. It has notes of Rose de Mai, Geranium, and Vetiver. We all know how much I adore vetiver. It’s a sophisticated scent that is a little bit spicy, a little bit woody, and a whole lotta sexy.
Givenchy Dahlia Divin Le Nectar de Parfum ($112 CAD/50 ml) This oriental floral is the most intense fragrance int he Dahlia Divin lineup. And of course that makes it my favourite! Announced as “the elixir of divine potency’ this scent is a sweet, powdery, and sexy nectar. It has amazing longevity and it just keeps getting better and better on my skin as the day progresses. This is a scent that makes you feel enveloped in a warm blanket. It has top notes of mimosa, middle notes of jasmine, rose and base notes of musk, tonkin beans, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver. The gold gradient bottle with gold flakes on the cap is absolutely stunning.
Burberry My Burberry Black Parfum ($125 US/$ CAD 90 ml) This oriental floral includes top notes of jasmine, middle notes of rose, peach, candy sweets and base notes of amber, patchouli. It is a warm, captivating scent with a candied touch thanks to the candied rose. This is my favourite incarnation of My Burberry. I love how it wears on my skin, continuing to become more and more warm, cozy, and a bit smoky. The bottle is a darker, smokier hue with a deeper cap referencing Burberry’s horn-look buttons, accented with a black bow.
Dior Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming Eau de Parfum ($119 CAD/$94 US 50ml) While the original Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet is a light fresh fruity floral, this new version is a sexier, sultrier version that is perfect for the cooler months. It features top notes of blackcurrant, pomegranate, raspberry, red berry fruit, middle notes of peony, rose, pink peppercorn and base notes of musk. I thought I would find the berries in this scent to sweet and cloying but this scent on my skin really warms up. I would swear there is amber in here although it is not listed in the notes. The adorably bow adorned bottle is very similar to the original but with a darker pink juice.
These fragrances from the Maison Lancôme Haute Parfumerie Paris are so stunningly presented. Heavy glass bottles with gold plating featuring both stamped and cut-out lettering as well as gorgeous cut-out floral artwork on the side of the bottles. These scents both look and smell decadently luxurious.
Lancôme Maison Lancôme Lavandes Trianon Eau de Parfum ($185 US/$215 CAD 100 ml) is a floral fruity gourmand featuring two French Lavender flowers from Drôme Provençale, softened by a Crystallized Vanilla signature. It is such a delicious, creamy lavender scent that warms beautifully to the skin. Notes include top notes of lavender, caramel, middle notes of lavender and base notes of milky vanilla.
This gourmand aromatic floral is the creation of Olivier Gillotin and Shyamala Maisondieu. This fresh gourmand shows stimulating sensuality, like skin in the sun, Olivier Gillotin and Shyamala Maisondieu constructed this superb combination of two Lavender varieties from the Provencal Drome location in France. Fine Lavender Essence, harvested at a high altitude, exudes fresh and intense notes, while Lavender Absolute from the Provence valleys exposes warmer, softer and more sugary balsamic sides. The Crystalized Vanilla signature brings femininity to the Lavender blend. Madagascar Vanilla, so sweet and discreetly innocent, is sweetened by hot milk and cooked sugar accords that heavenly reproduce the scents of a creme brulee.
Lancôme Maison Lancôme L’Autre Ôud Eau de Parfum ($195 US/$235 CAD 100 ml) is an oriental woody fragrance that is a smoky, sexy woody scent with just a whisper of rose. It is warm, sensual, and heavy. While it may feel overpowering on first application it settles into the skin to a wonderful warm, spicy, and opulent woody fragrance. Top notes of natural gum, saffron, middle notes of rose, cypriol and base notes of frankincense, oud.
A fragrance that swings between oud wood and rose. Perfumer Christophe Raynaud created a blend of 17 hand-picked raw materials that recompose an oud wood with incomparable complexity. Dark and leathery, it wavers between the spicy nuances of cypriol and the shadowy depth of myrrh. The frankincense rose signature transports a splendid damascena rose that sets off with saffron into swirls of frankincense.
Lancôme Maison Lancôme Ôud Bouquet Eau de Parfum ($195 US/$235 CAD 100 ml) is another oriental woody fragrance. If you find L’Autre Ôud too sharply woody the warmer, sweeter Ôud Bouquet with notes of vanilla and praline is a cozier, sexier alternative. While I love a good ôud scent I do find myself gravitating to this version more. This scent features top notes of praline, middle notes of rose, copahu balsam and base notes of vanilla, oud, vera wood.
A narcotic and sensual rose. Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, renowned for his subtle creations, blended a trio of bold woods composed of 20-year-old oud wood and smoky guaiac wood, softened by the enveloping sweetness of copahu wood. The praline rose signature, crafted from centifolia rose absolute, vanilla and praline accord, gives it an enigmatic and infinitely seductive power.
Coach Eau de Parfum ($95 US/$115 CAD 90 ml) is a floral scent with a unique combo of Turkish Rose and Raspberries. The spray cap is shaped like a gold turn cap but I find this feature to be troublesome to use. With the wide oval shaped bottle I find it hard to grasp the bottle and reach the cap to depress it at an even angle and dispense the fragrance smoothly. The ebony leather and hangtag details are really fun. Top notes are raspberry leaf, pink pepper and pear, heart notes of Turkish rose, and base notes of suede musk and sandalwood.
MUGLER Alien Collector Divine Ornamentation ($133 CAD 60 ml) This scent is the original, iconic Angel scent but this limited edition packaging makes it the perfect holiday gift. The rich purple bottle is covered in real 17 and 18 carat gold particles that give it a cracked gold effect. So stunning. Alien is an unconventional combination of the sunny white floral Sambac Jasmine with anamalic white amber and cashmeran woods resulting in the distinct and magnetic Alien scent. Alien lasts all day for me and is one of those scents that I love most after it’s been on my skin for several hours.
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rosé ($74 US/$89 CAD 50 ml) if you are not into the warmer, sultrier woody and oriental scents you typically see in fall and winter you may enjoy the new Viva La Juicy Rose. This fruity floral is a bright, fresh rose scent that features top notes of mandarine, jasmine, pear, middle notes of jasmine, peony, rose and base notes of orris, styrax balsam, ambroxan. The pink and gold glitter bottle with pink tulle bow with bottle pendant filled with pink crystals hanging from a gold safety pin is so dang cute!
Britney Spears Private Show is Britney Spears’ 20th scent. I had no idea she had released that many fragrances! Private Show embraces her love of dulce de leche, white flowers, and iced coffee. It has top notes of clementine, nectarine, coffee bean, cream, middle notes of jasmine, citrus blossom, milk candy and base notes of amber, musk. Overtly sweet scents aren’t my thing but the inclusion of coffee in this fragrance is quite fun.
My favourites from these new launches are Givenchy Dahlia Divin Le Nectar de Parfum, Burberry My Burberry Black, Maison Lancôme Lavandes Trianon and Ôud Bouquet, Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourban, and Dior Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming.
